Virtually Bookish with Upasika Beth Steff
Please join Virtually Bookish for a discussion with Upasika and long-term Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery lay resident Beth Steff. Beth compiled the Dhamma talks that became More Than Mindfulness: Widening the Field of Practice, which the book group has been reading. Take this opportunity to ask questions about the book, the process of creating it, her journey during the process, and so on. More Than Mindfulness is available on the Abhayagiri website or for request as a paperback. Zoom into the group here: https://us02web.zoom.us/
The collection of teachings was dedicated with respect and gratitude to Luang Por Pasanno on January 4, 2024, to honor the 50th anniversary of his bhikkhu ordination. It is offered as an introduction to the breadth and depth of mindfulness and Dhamma practice, and it features Dhamma reflections from various teachers who have lived at or visited Abhayagiri Monastery including Luang Por Sumedho, Luang Por Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Luang Por Vīradhammo, Ajahn Sucitto, Ajahn Jayasaro, and Ajahn Sundarā.
In the preface to the book, Beth says: This small collection of teachings may serve as an introduction to the breadth and depth of mindfulness and Dhamma practice. The wise teachers are some of those who are residents or who visited Abhayagiri Monastery over the years I lived there. My hope is that a topic, a teacher, or a paragraph, may touch you, may encourage you, may arouse a curiosity to explore further. I offer it with a heart imbued with gratitude for all I have been fortunate to receive in the Ajahn Chah lineage, and for the kindness and support of many friends.
In addition, please join us on Sunday Nov. 17 for a special Sunday Sila online and in-person with Beth. We will take the precepts, have a meditation, request a reflection from Beth, and take time for questions and conversation. At 11:30, we’ll break for a potluck meal and more Dhamma conversation.
