Brightening the Mind
Brightening the Mind
The Buddha recommended using certain recollections, or Anussatis, as a way to brighten the mind at the beginning of a meditation or during a dry spell in practice. Six of these – Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha; Generosity, Integrity and the characteristics of the Devas – are designed to inspire faith in the path and confidence in our practice. Working with the Anussantis encourages us to be generous and have integrity in our daily lives and then call upon the memory of those actions to brighten our hearts. The recollections help create a continuous loop of practice, wise reflection, and adjustment. The class is aimed at those who are interested in freshening up their regular meditation practice and adding more tools to their toolbox.
All are welcome to attend, and donations for the center are gratefully received. The class is hybrid and the Zoom can be accessed at this link. Registration encouraged but is not required. Send RSVP’s and questions to pdxdhamma.org/contact. Taught by Jessica Swanson.
